A Life in Invention: Mr Nicholas Bredimus
A major change in hospitality and airline travel was touched off by Nicholas Bredimus, who introduced them to the computer industry to produce something new. This renaissance man has found work in several areas, from the designer home sector via the essentials of safety in the air to software programs to help with time management. You could have anticipated, of course, that given his lineage he was always likely to reach prominence. Traceable all the way to classical times and Nicholas’ provenience ties in with a number of nations in Europe. Following the maternal branch, for example, he descends from Scottish and German bloodlines. England and Luxembourg were home to his father’s family, although during the 1800s they came to America. Once in the U.S.A, they still worked hard to rise up the social ladder. Nicholas, as well as his six siblings, was a child of a father who made his living as a mechanical design engineer and his wife, a nurse. He settled for a time in Kansas City, Arizona, Texas and a city called Reston in Virginia. He’s stepped up to the challenge of prestigious roles at businesses across the airline industry — most of them highly distinguished names. Hughes Airwest, Trans World Airlines (TWA), Republic Airlines — all three would at various times respectively appoint him as a VP. Most prominent, even considering this, was his work as a creative programmer working with the airline industry. His outstanding work on aircraft maintenance computer programs, now used in the entire air travel sector though originally coded for one specific firm, resulted in what is even now his most used program. Of course, this stands as just one of his key products for airlines. His hotel reservation software is on its way to stand alongside the aforementioned program as a standard, and the hotel booking routine he designed made it feasible for a great number of hotels to shift to the world’s first PC based architecture. He also coded an industry specific system called QuikTix, the world’s first electronic ticket ordering network. He employed these successes to advance into capacities less connected to software development, and went on to build his reputation. He worked as manager for American Express’ renowned IT department, founded Bredimus Systems, and became the inaugural president of a major American Airlines division. Having withdrawn from the businesses that first gave him fortune, his capabilities are nonetheless still very much in use. He’s at work now advancing architecture — balancing the needs of esthetics with up-to-date technology and honest concern for the environment.
